RESOLUTIONS 2002
Collaboration NMLGF and MLT
The New Mexico Acequia Association will collaborate with the New Mexico Land Grant Forum and the Mexicano Land Education and Conservation Trust in assertion and protection of land and water rights and in proposing remedies regarding the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
Public Education and Communication
The New Mexico Acequia Association should establish a stronger community education program and initiate a media strategy to education the public about the significance and value of acequias. The New Mexico Acequia Association will work to build a stronger statewide organization with an effective communications network using a regular newsletter and website to mobilize members for important actions.
Youth
The New Mexico Acequia Association supports the participation of young people in acequias and will develop programs that engage young people in acequia traditions, producing educational materials about acequias, and developing community-based youth mentorship programs.
Support of Attorney General
The New Mexico Acequia Association will work with he Office of the Attorney General to ensure that acequias have the legal representation and legal counsel needed to serve as local units of government.
