I am a Mexican historian/anthropologist making research on northern New Mexico culture and recent history. Acequias and Land Grants are a crucial part of my study. I attended 2006 annual Congreso de las Aceqias as an observer and would like to attend this year since I am hoping to complete a book by the end of 2008 with the material I have been collecting in successive research periods since 2004.

Dear Jorge Garcia:Thank you for your response. I am based in Mexico City, a professor researcher at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in the Departamento de Humanidades. This year I published an article on New Mexico hispanos between 1848 and 1880 in a book on the Mexicans on the US borderland states that I coordinated with Martha Ortega, also from UAM, México. If you are interested in knowing my work I can have it sent to you as soon as I get back to Mexico in February. At present I am staying in Santa Fe doing my research with the support of the Greenleaf Visiting Scholars Program at the Latin American and Iberian Institute, UNM. I attended the Congreso de las Acequias but was late. I am very much interested in talking to as many people as possible involved in the New Mexico Acequia organisations and land grants and would in fact appreciate if you spoke with me about these issues.
